Hunger Artists Ensemble Theatre
Denver, CO
Founded in Denver in 1979 by a like-minded group of actors
who believed that working in a collaborative, ensemble style produced
the most effecting theatre, Hunger Artists Ensemble Theatre has
expanded to include directors, designers, technicians and guest artists

in a collaborative relationship with CityStage Ensemble and from 1993
to 1996, with the cooperation and support of the University of Denver’s
Theatre Department, Hunger Artists became the resident theatre
at DU.
Over nineteen seasons Hunger Artists has performed
Shakespeare to Stoppard, concentrating on the most challenging of contemporary
works. Audience favorites have included Tom Jones, The
Fox, The Real Thing, Breaking the Code, As Is,
Black Coffee, Tales of the Lost Formicans, Measure for
Measure, Stage Door, The Illusion, Night of the Iguana,
Dancing at Lughnasa and James Joyce’s The Dead.

Hunger Artists' history of producing theatre that
focuses on the larger issues of our culture culminated in the 1997 production
of Tony Kushner’s epic, Angels in America at the Acoma Center.
Angels was the largest production in Hunger Artists' history
in terms of artistic staff, community involvement and audience attendance.
Hunger Artists is proud to have garnered over 38
nominations from the Denver Drama Critics Circle and 28 awards for excellence
from the DDCC and the "Bests" of Westword, including Best Production
awards for The Real Thing, Breaking the Code, Angels
in America and Dancing At Lughnasa. However, the most appreciated
accolades are from our subscribers, contributors and patrons whose support
have made our brand of theatre possible.
